The Town of Southern Pines experienced three incidents where untreated wastewater was discharged into McDeeds Creek on July 6, following flooding from Tropical Storm Chantal.
The Town said it had a discharge of untreated wastewater, estimated at 300,000 gallons, near the intersection of Midland Road and U.S. 1. An estimated 90,000 gallons of untreated wastewater were discharged near 255 Central Drive. Also, an estimated 67,575 gallons of untreated wastewater were discharged along Yadkin Road, near Boiling Springs Road.Â
The Town Utilities Division was notified of the events at approximately 6 p.m. on Sunday. All efforts to mitigate wastewater release were taken. The system returned to normal service at approximately midnight on Monday morning, and cleanup and sanitizing efforts were conducted, the Town announced in a media release.
