Car strikes tree in Pinehurst crash

A single-vehicle crash in Pinehurst left a van totaled on Friday morning. The call came in from the Pinehurst Police Department shortly before 7:30 a.m., according to radio traffic. An officer called dispatch for Pinehurst Fire and Rescue and Moore County EMS to respond priority one.

Upon arrival, authorities found that the van was off the roadway and had struck a tree on Azalea Road just before the curve that turned into Midland Road. The van was traveling from Midland Road when the driver ran off the left side in the curve.

The impact caused heavy front-end damage, deployed the air bags, and split the tree in half.

Authorities on scene are still investigating the incident and did not disclose the cause of the crash or if any of the occupants suffered injuries.
