Vass man charged in robbery of Aberdeen smoke shop

A Vass man was arrested on Aug. 4 by the Moore County Sheriff’s Department for the robbery of a smoke shop while he was attending court in Carthage.

It’s unclear why the suspect was at the courthouse when he was arrested.

Nicholas Hunt, 29, of Youngs Road, is in the Moore County Detention Center under an $80,000 secured bond. His arrest for robbery with a dangerous weapon was a probation violation.

The arrest comes after the 9:25 p.m. robbery of The Island Smoke Shop and Lounge at 1701 N Sandhills Blvd, Aberdeen on Aug. 2.

Aberdeen Police Deputy Chief Craig Armstrong said a camera identified a suspect wielding a knife at the store clerk and taking merchandise from the store.

There were no injuries reported.

Hunt is scheduled to appear in court for violating probation on Aug. 11. His court date for robbery is set for Sept. 8.
