A single-vehicle crash in Cameron early Tuesday morning sent three people to the hospital and slowed the morning commute on N.C. 24-27. Emergency units were dispatched to the crash around 5:30 a.m. at the roadway’s intersection with Bass Road, just east of U.S. Highway 1.
According to officials on scene, a Jeep SUV traveling south on Bass Road failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection with N.C. 24-27. The vehicle crossed the highway and crashed into a tree, flipping onto its passenger side.
Firefighters had to break the glass out of the Jeep’s sunroof to free the occupants. A second rescue out of Carthage Fire Department was dispatched to assist with extricating the reportedly trapped occupants but was canceled just before arriving.
All three senior-aged patients were transported to Moore Regional Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
One lane of N.C. 24-27 was shut down while crews worked the scene, and North Carolina State Highway Patrol investigated the crash.
Responding units were Cypress Pointe Fire Department, Carthage Fire Department, Moore County EMS, and N.C. Highway Patrol.
