Dysoaneik Spellman was sworn in as deputy chief of the Aberdeen Police Department on Monday.
During the Aberdeen Town Council meeting, Aberdeen Police Chief Brian Chavis said Spellman grew up in Eastern North Carolina. Spellman completed his basic law enforcement training at Craven Community College in 1998 and has since built a career in law enforcement spanning over 20 years.
Before joining the Aberdeen Police Department in May, Spellman served at the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office at the Town of Spring Lake Police Department.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice administration from Columbia Southern University and an associate degree in criminal justice technology from Beaufort Community College. Spellman also earned the NC Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate and is a graduate of the Management Development Program through the NC Justice Academy.
“I’m excited to have Deputy Chief Spellman join the team of talented professionals who are committed to public service and excellence in the community and Police Department,” said Chavis in an email to Sandhills Sentinel. “I believe Deputy Chief Spellman will be able to assist the command staff in taking the department to the next level while upholding our core values of ‘trust, cooperation, fairness, transparency, and protection of lives and property.’”
