Shots were fired between cars in Southern Pines Tuesday afternoon. The shooting took place in front of the Kangaroo Gas Station on Council Way and U.S. 1.

The suspect fled the scene, and Southern Pines Police apprehended the suspect on U.S. 1 near Midland Road in Southern Pines.  Police found marijuana, digital scales, and a .40 caliber Smith and Wesson semi-automatic pistol in the vehicle, according to the Southern Pines Police Department.

Dalyne Chaquiel Balser, 26, of Aberdeen was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill (3 counts), carrying a concealed firearm, discharge of a firearm into occupied property, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

“An investigation was conducted on Council Way and U.S. 1 where eleven .40 caliber spent shell casings were recovered. This investigation at this time has revealed that Dalyne Chaquiel Balser fired from his vehicle at another vehicle stopped in traffic on Council Way at U.S. 1,” said Southern Pines Police Department.

The police are unsure if the target vehicle was struck by bullets.  However, a second vehicle, carrying a 36-year-old female and two children ages six and eight, was hit by gunfire.

The police department is seeking information on the second vehicle which may have been involved in the incident.  The vehicle is described as possibly being a black Ford Mustang.  If anyone has information, please contact the department at 910-692-7031 or the anonymous tip line at 910-693-4110.

Balser was jailed under a $150,000 bond, has a September 25 court date, and is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
