Fort Bragg celebrated 100 years of service on Sept. 4. From an artillery training camp in 1918 to the home of the Airborne and Special Operations Forces, Fort Bragg’s rich history contributed to the defense and security of our nation.

To commemorate the installation’s centennial, Fort Bragg invites the surrounding communities to participate in the “Fort Bragg: 100 Years of History Challenge.”

The event will be held Saturday, Sept. 29, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  It begins and ends at Sports USA.

Teams of two will receive clues to specific locations based on Fort Bragg history. The teams will figure out the answer by using a special Paraglide insert and a map provided to them, and head over to the location.

Once at the location, each team must answer a question to receive their next clue. Each team must locate 10 historical points. The goal is to have 100 teams, which represents Fort Bragg’s 100 years.

Winners will be announced at 2 p.m. Prizes include $300 plus $200 AAFES gift card for first place, $200 plus $100 AAFES gift card for second place, and $100 plus $50 AAFES gift card for third place.

Additional items to be raffled off during th event include a tail gate grill, golf bag, cornhole set, and various other gift cards and more.

The cost to register is $10 per team at Sports USA on Fort Bragg. Registration will be open leading up to the event.

“The Fort Bragg history challenge is open to the public,” said Tom McCollum, Fort Bragg Public Affairs Officer. “It’s a way to learn more about the history of Fort Bragg by being interactive and engaged with historical areas that are still standing today from 1918. It’s like taking a step into history.”
