All schools in the Moore County School system have once again earned recognition for supporting military-connected students. The district recently received designation as a Purple Star Legacy District after all 24 of its schools earned the Purple Star Award for the 2025–26 school year.
The recognition marks six consecutive years that every school in the district has received the designation, earning the district the status of Legacy District.
“We are honored to be one of only six districts in North Carolina to earn this Legacy District distinction,” writes Moore County Schools in a Facebook post. “From supporting smooth transitions to providing strong, student-centered resources, our schools work every day to ensure our military-connected students feel welcomed, supported, and valued.”

State and school officials celebrated the achievement during a ceremony April 24 at the North Carolina National Guard Joint Force Headquarters.
According to the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, the Purple Star Award recognizes schools that “demonstrate a strong commitment to military families” through programs, resources, and practices designed to support students connected to military service.
North Carolina launched the Purple Star initiative in 2019 to acknowledge the state’s large population of active-duty service members, veterans, and military families and to highlight schools that work to meet their unique needs.
“Thank you to our military families for your service and sacrifice,” concludes Moore County Schools. “It is an honor to serve you and your children.”
