Pinecrest High School automotive students recently visited the Moore County Schools’ bus garage for a behind-the-scenes look at transportation and vehicle maintenance careers.
Jason Nelson, director of transportation, along with team members Misty and Roy, welcomed the students and led a tour of the garage. Students learned about the work involved in maintaining the district’s bus fleet and the important role the Transportation Department plays in helping students travel safely each day.
Students also learned about a pre-apprenticeship and internship opportunity available to those who have completed or are enrolled in a Level II or higher automotive course, providing another connection between classroom instruction and potential career pathways.
The visit also included a meaningful full-circle connection. Pinecrest automotive instructor Mr. Martin shared that Jason, Misty and Roy were all former students. Today, they use their experience to give back by sharing their knowledge, career paths, and expertise with the next generation of automotive students.
“The experience highlighted the value of work-based learning by connecting classroom instruction with real-world applications and helping students explore future career opportunities,” said the school district in a news release on Oct. 20. “Moore County Schools appreciates Mr. Nelson, Misty, Roy and the Transportation team for welcoming the students and sharing their expertise.”
