Pinehurst man charged in threat of 'mass violence' tied to N.C. State

A Pinehurst man was arrested in Wake County after authorities said he made a threat of mass violence connected to North Carolina State University.

Luke Archer Hoover, 24, was arrested April 23 in Raleigh and charged with communicating threats of mass violence on educational property, according to Wake County arrest records. Authorities allege Hoover made a threat on social media to shoot a person at a public venue, which constitutes mass violence.

He was also charged April 27 with misdemeanor and felony probation violations connected to prior incidents.

According to court records, Hoover previously pleaded guilty to charges including larceny and possession of stolen property in Moore County.

An arrest warrant states the threat involved educational property associated with N.C. State University. Hoover is reportedly not affiliated with the school.

As of Tuesday, Hoover was being held in the Wake County jail without bond. Court records show he is scheduled to appear in court in Wake County, and no further details were immediately available.
