Motorcyclist airlifted after Pinebluff collision

A motorcyclist was airlifted to UNC Thursday afternoon following a serious collision at an intersection leading into US Highway 1 in Pinebluff.

Emergency crews were dispatched upon receiving a call shortly after 2:30 p.m. to the intersection of U.S. Highway 1 and N Currant Street for a reported collision involving a motorcycle and a 4-door sedan. The first arriving fire units reported heavy damage and immediately shut down both northbound lanes of U.S. Highway 1.

According to a brief statement from the N.C. Highway Patrol, “the motorcycle operator sustained critical injuries and was transported by Moore County EMS to a landing zone established at the ball field on Currant Street. The N.C. State Highway Patrol will be leading the investigation along with Pinebluff PD.”

Troopers also told Sandhills Sentinel that the cause of the crash remains under investigation, and no additional information has been released at this time.

A UNC Health helicopter was seen landing at the site and flying the victim to a regional trauma center for advanced medical treatment.

The condition of the driver of the sedan was not disclosed at the scene.

Traffic remained backed up for more than an hour as emergency personnel worked the scene and investigators gathered evidence. The roadway was reopened to normal traffic around 4 p.m.

Pinebluff Fire & Rescue, Aberdeen Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS, Pinebluff Police Department, and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol were on scene working to clear the roadway.
