One person died after a Sunday morning house fire in the Jackson Hamlet community, just outside Pinehurst. The home is located on Arnette Street, off Highway 5. Four people were in the house when the fire broke out, and two escaped safely.
According to initial reports, the people repeatedly attempted to reenter the burning home to rescue the woman. Multiple fire units from across the county’s south end, including Fort Bragg, responded. Despite the efforts, the woman did not survive the fire.
“A witness at the scene advised firefighters that an occupant may still be inside,” said the Village of Pinehurst spokesperson in a statement to Sandhills Sentinel. “Crews encountered extreme heat and heavy fire conditions while working to bring the fire under control. One individual was located deceased inside the residence.
“The Village of Pinehurst extends its deepest condolences to the victim’s family, loved ones and the Jackson Hamlet community.”
The Moore County Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire. The home is a total loss.
Units from Pinehurst, Aberdeen, Eastwood, Fort Bragg, West End, and Seven Lakes responded. Moore County EMS and the Moore County Sheriff’s Office were also on scene.
