Woman dies in fire that destroys home

One person has died after a Sunday morning house fire in the Jackson Hamlet community, just outside Pinehurst. The home is located on Arnette Street, just off Highway 5. Three people were in the house when the fire broke out, and two escaped safely.

According to initial reports, the two people repeatedly attempted to reenter the burning home to rescue the woman. Multiple fire units from across the county’s south end, including Fort Bragg, responded. Despite the crews’ efforts, the woman did not survive the fire.

The Moore County Fire Marshal arrived on scene and will investigate the cause. The home is a total loss.

Units from Pinehurst, Aberdeen, Eastwood, Fort Bragg, West End, and Seven Lakes responded. Moore County EMS and the Moore County Sheriff’s Office were also on scene.

No other details were released on the scene. This story will be updated when more information becomes available.
