A single-vehicle crash shut down a portion of NC Highway 24-27 Sunday night after a vehicle hit a power pole, which caused it to break and bring down power lines across the highway.
The crash happened around 9:30 p.m. between Nickens Road and Red Hill Road.
The Pontiac Solstice was traveling east when the driver swerved and lost control.
The car skidded off the right side of the roadway, narrowly missing a large tree, before crashing into a power pole. The impact broke the pole at ground level, leaving it lying across the roadway and shutting it down to all traffic.
When the first emergency unit arrived, command advised that the transformer had leaked oil onto the road and there was a small fire.
Moore County Sheriff’s Office diverted traffic on both sides of the crash scene while crews worked to clear the roadway and remove the vehicle.
Duke Energy was on scene to make necessary repairs.
NC Highway 24-27 was shut down for several hours while Duke Energy made repairs.
The female driver of the Pontiac did not appear to be injured but was arrested on suspicion of DWI.
NC Highway Patrol was on scene investigating the crash.
Responding units were Cypress Pointe Fire Department, Moore County EMS, Moore County Sheriff’s Office and NC Highway Patrol.
