Moore County Sheriff Ronnie Fields reported the death of an inmate at the detention center.
At approximately 3:00 a.m. Thursday, Moore County Detention Center staff responded to a sick call made via intercom by inmate Christy White, 52, who reported difficulty breathing, according to a Moore County Sheriff’s Office news release. Staff responded to her cell and found White unresponsive on her bed.
Detention Center staff immediately initiated emergency protocols and began life-saving measures. Moore County EMS responded and continued life-saving efforts; however, despite those efforts, White was pronounced deceased.
White was processed into the Moore County Detention Center the day before on charges of possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia, said the release.
“Sheriff Ronnie Fields extends his sincere condolences to White’s family and loved ones during this difficult time of loss,” said the release.
In accordance with standard protocol, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) is conducting an independent investigation into White’s death. The SBI will determine the official findings and circumstances surrounding her death.
