Two arrested in armed robbery at Aberdeen restaurant

Two men who were recently arrested in an armed robbery investigation at Mac’s Breakfast Anytime were also arrested for a prior case involving a stolen cash register at the same restaurant.

Aberdeen Police Department announced that Gregory McCullough, 70, of Pinebluff, and Tommy Ware Jr., 63, of Laurel Hill, were arrested in both investigations.

On Sept. 18, Aberdeen officers and investigators responded to Mac’s Breakfast Anytime regarding a breaking and entering.

Upon arrival, officers discovered that an unidentified subject had unlawfully entered the closed business by defeating a lock on the secured back door. The subject then used a screwdriver to detach the cash register from the counter and left the restaurant with the cash register and the cash inside.

Investigators obtained statements and began seeking leads.

On Oct. 9, an armed robbery occurred at Mac’s Breakfast Anytime when an armed suspect entered the business through an open back door, pushed all five individuals into a bathroom, and stole a customer’s purse, an employee’s phone, and the business bank bag containing approximately $700. Investigators later identified McCullough and Ware as suspects after using numerous law enforcement methods.

“During the course of that investigation, evidence was located that also implicated McCullough and Ware in the prior (stolen cash register) incident,” said the Aberdeen Police Department in a press release. “In addition, Ware’s vehicle was successfully identified as the suspect vehicle used.” Officers obtained warrants for Ware for felony breaking and entering, felony larceny after breaking/entering, felony conspiracy, and felony possession of burglary tools. Officers obtained warrants for McCullough for felony conspiracy, who was employed as a dishwasher at the restaurant.

On Oct. 21, Asheville Police and US Marshals located Ware in Asheville. Aberdeen investigators took him into custody and transported him back to Moore County. He was taken before a Moore County magistrate, where he was given no bond.

On Oct. 23, the Moore County Sheriff’s Office served McCullough, who was already in custody at the Moore County jail. He was taken before a Moore County magistrate, where he received no bond.
