The Union Pines High School Navy JROTC program has once again earned national recognition for its performance in academics, leadership, and competition.
According to Moore County Schools, the program recently received the designation of Distinguished Unit with Academic Honors for the second consecutive year.
The recognition places the school’s Navy JROTC program among the top units in the country and reflects achievements across academics, service, and extracurricular competition throughout the school year.
A post on the Moore County Schools Facebook page said that the cadets hosted and participated in numerous regional events, including the Area 5 Orienteering Championship at Raven Rock State Park, the Viking Drill Meet, physical training competitions, the Brain Brawl Academic Competition, and multiple drone competitions.
Union Pines also saw success on the national stage this year.
Both the school’s Air Rifle Team and Drone Team qualified for national competitions, continuing the program’s strong year.
In addition, cadet Omari Walker received an appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point.
District officials praised the cadets, instructors, and supporters for “continuing to represent Moore County Schools at the highest levels through service, leadership, and dedication.”
