American Idol finalist announced as grand marshal for S.P. Christmas parade

The Southern Pines Business Association (SPBA) announced the grand marshal for the Southern Pines Christmas Parade scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 2, at 11 a.m.

Pinecrest graduate and American Idol top 24 finalist Elijah McCormick will be the grand marshal and lead the parade with his live band singing holiday tunes.

“The grand marshal has always been viewed as an honor for the participant, and it is SPBA’s way of showing appreciation for an individual (sometimes a group) for their commitment to the town, service to others or the noteworthy impact they have on the community,” said SPBA.

In August 2022, McCormick followed his dreams on the American Idol platform and reached the top 24. Since being on the national TV show, McCormick sold out his first show back home, traveled to perform in various states and has been performing for other events in the area. He’s also released his debut single, “Soar,” on all streaming platforms.

When asked about the parade, McCormick said, “I’m excited as this is an awesome way to give back to the community that has supported me throughout my journey.”

Along with McCormick, the parade will feature high school bands, dance teams, floats created by local organizations and Moore County businesses, fire trucks, antique cars, misses and princesses, local leaders, and, of course, Santa Claus.

The parade will begin at Sunrise Theater, heading south down Broad Street to Massachusetts Avenue, where it will cross the tracks and make its way back up North Broad Street to Connecticut Avenue.
