Moore County Manager Wayne Vest announced Thursday that Dawn Gilbert and Laura Williams have been selected as assistant county managers.
Gilbert, a native of Robbins, has been employed with Moore County government for 21 years and currently serves as human resources director. Williams, a native of the Westmoore community, has served the county for 15 years as clerk to the board of commissioners.
In their new roles, Gilbert and Williams will assist the county manager in oversight of the county’s departments, with Gilbert managing those providing health, community, and cultural services and Williams managing those providing public safety and development services.
“Ms. Gilbert and Ms. Williams have provided outstanding commitment and leadership over the course of their careers with Moore County,” said Vest in a press release. “As I considered the organizational needs, current and future, and the individuals best suited to fulfill those needs, the answer was obvious and easy as to who could lead Moore County now and well into the future.
“I am very pleased that Ms. Williams and Ms. Gilbert have accepted these positions. It is very rewarding as a manager to be able to look internally at the organization and see the great talent that we have to deliver exceptional services to our citizens, and it is double rewarding to be able to provide career advancement opportunities for our employees.”
The decision to have a second assistant manager comes at an opportune time, as the county has experienced several department director-level retirements in the past several months. Adding the second assistant manager provides greater balance to the organizational structure and provides better departmental oversight/assistance to the newly hired directors as the county continues to successfully execute its succession plan, which was developed with the input of the former directors prior to their retirements.
