A driver escaped injuries after crashing his car Sunday evening near Vass.
The single vehicle crash happened on Lakebay Road around 10 p.m. when a group of large turkeys ran out in front of the car causing the the driver to veer off the road at a curve, according to the driver.

“The Dodge Charger T/A ran off the left side of the road traveling a couple of hundred feet and taking down several small hardwoods and a couple of pines before hitting a larger tree and coming to a stop,” said Frank Staples with Cypress Pointe Fire & Rescue.
The car’s airbags deployed and suffered extensive front end damage. The driver refused transport to the hospital.
Responding to the crash were Cypress Pointe Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS, and North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
