Car crashes into ravine during Hurricane Helene

A driver escaped serious injury after crashing their car in Southern Pines during the torrential rains of Hurricane Helene on Friday.

The car was traveling north on U.S. 1, approaching the Pennsylvania Avenue overpass, when the vehicle went off the right side of the road beside the off-ramp. The car continued across the grass and slammed into a flooded ravine.

When emergency crews arrived, the driver was out of the vehicle. They were evaluated by EMS and transported to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Southern Pines Police are investigating the accident.

Southern Pines Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS, and the Southern Pines Police Department responded to the scene.
