A driver escaped serious injury when her car went off the road and overturned during heavy rain in Southern Pines on Sunday. She was driving south on U.S. Highway 1 when her vehicle went off the right-hand side of the road and overturned just before 4 p.m. The accident occurred just north of Midland Road in the southbound lane.
The driver of the Hyundai Sonata was evaluated by EMS at the scene and transported to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital to be evaluated, according to officials. She did not suffer any severe injuries. One southbound lane was shut down due to the accident.
Southern Pines Police are investigating the accident.
Responding to the scene were Southern Pines Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS, and the Southern Pines Police Department.
The area remains under a flood watch and high wind warning.
