A chlorine leak at the Robbins Wastewater Treatment Plant sparked a Hazmat response on Tuesday afternoon.
Gas alarms went off inside one of the plant’s buildings Tuesday morning, according to Robbins Town Manager Clint Mack. Emergency crews, including Robbins Fire and Rescue, Robbins Police Department, Moore County EMS, and Moore County Public Safety, responded.
“The engineer wanted the Hazmat team here with their equipment in case they are needed,” Mack said on the scene.
The hazardous materials team, which responded from Fayetteville emergency services, began arriving on the scene before 2 p.m.
Mack told Sandhills Sentinel that there is no threat to public services at this time.
“There is no impact to services,” he said. “Water is completely separated and safe. Wastewater is operational. We are just making sure all emergency personnel are safe while we locate the leak.”
Updates will be provided if more information becomes available.
