A crash notification alerted emergency crews to a single-vehicle wreck that left a car overturned in Southern Pines on Wednesday night. The alert was received around 6 p.m., notifying authorities of a crash in the area of North May Street.
Authorities at the scene told Sandhills Sentinel the driver was traveling south on May Street when the vehicle ran off the right side of the road and struck a utility pole, snapping it in two. The impact caused the vehicle to flip and land on its roof.
Despite the heavy damage to the car, the driver was safely removed and treated at the scene by paramedics before being transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
North Main Street was temporarily closed and traffic was rerouted while crews worked to clear the scene.
The cause of the crash was not disclosed, and the scene is being investigated.
Responding units included the Southern Pines Fire and Rescue Department, Moore County EMS, and the Southern Pines Police Department.
