Shortly after 10:15 a.m. Sunday, detention staff at the Moore County Detention Center located 60-year-old Judith Gossett unresponsive in her cell during routine operations. Staff immediately initiated emergency protocols and provided medical aid until Moore County EMS arrived, announced Sheriff Ronnie Fields in a press release.
Gossett was transported to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased.
Gossett had been admitted to the Moore County Detention Center on June 30 by North Carolina Probation and Parole on a charge of defrauding a drug screening test.
“In accordance with standard protocol, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) is conducting an independent investigation and will determine the official findings regarding Ms. Gossett’s death,” said Fields.
