Simply tea-riffic: The Spice & Tea Exchange confirmed for Southern Pines

Something new is brewing in Southern Pines. The Spice & Tea Exchange has been confirmed as the latest business coming to the area, with a company representative telling Sandhills Sentinel that the new shop is expected to open in the first quarter of 2027.

The national franchise specializes in spices, seasonings, loose-leaf teas, and other culinary products designed to “bring new flavors into home kitchens.”

The company began in St. Augustine, Florida, and has since expanded into a nationwide franchise. Its line includes more than 125 exclusive products, including proprietary spice blends, seasonings and rubs, loose-leaf teas, flavored sugars, sea salts, and other specialty ingredients.

Beyond food and beverages, the company has incorporated its signature aromas into products such as candles and infused honey.

Tea is a major part of the business. In addition to loose-leaf teas, the company recently expanded its selection to include bulk and organic teas. Some locations also feature a tea bar, where customers can order freshly brewed tea while browsing the store.

Online, the company says its goal is to create an experience centered on flavor and discovery, with stores designed around the aromas of spices and teas.

The Spice & Tea Exchange traces its origins to 2008, when founders Amy Freeman and Penny Rehling met and connected over their shared interests in “family, food, and community.” What began as a shared dream eventually grew into a franchise that has operated for more than 15 years.

The Southern Pines location will add another option for local residents looking to explore specialty ingredients, teas, and flavors when it opens next year.

An exact location and opening date have not yet been provided.
