A woman and a dog were killed, and another person was airlifted to a hospital with life-threatening injuries Thursday morning after a crash involving a golf cart in Pinehurst.
The two-vehicle crash was reported shortly before 8 a.m. at Beulah Hill Road and Shaw Road. It closed Beulah Hill Road from Cherokee Road to Linden Road.Â
According to radio traffic, first responders began performing CPR on the woman shortly after arriving at the scene. Air medical transport was also requested following the initial evaluation.
Brenda Sural, 64, was the passenger of the golf cart and was pronounced dead at the scene. Her husband, Steven Sural, 66, the driver of the golf cart, was taken by ambulance to a landing zone at the Arboretum before being airlifted to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the SUV was transported to Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.Â
The golf cart sustained heavy damage and was left in the middle of the roadway following the crash.
“The golf cart was crossing Highway 5 and was struck by an SUV,” said Pinehurst Police Chief Glen Webb in a statement to Sandhills Sentinel. “It appears traffic was backed up, and they did not see the SUV prior to the crash.
Webb said the investigation is in its preliminary stages, and this information could evolve as the case continues, witness statements are gathered, and investigators complete the reconstruction of events.Â
Webb said the family, loved ones, and everyone affected by this tragic crash are in his thoughts.Â
