At the beginning of a recent Pinehurst Council meeting, Village Manager Jeff Sanborn presented the volunteer of the year award to Nancy Donahue for her work at the Welcome Center.
“The Village is really blessed with a whole host of highly qualified, energetic, engaged folks that want to help us to be the best community we can be,” said Sanborn. “I can’t say enough about what they do to serve the Village of Pinehurst.”
Donahue was nominated by her peers and village staff for consistently going above and beyond. “During the year, she covered 78 shifts or one-third of all the shifts,” said Sanborn as he made the announcement.
The other finalists for the award were Janet Farrell, Beautification Committee and Susan Strine, Greenway Wildlife Habitat Committee.
For the past two years, the award has been presented at a village council meeting because of coronavirus restrictions. A return to the normal awards luncheon is expected next year.
Pinehurst Mayor John Strickland thanked the Welcome Center Manager Manager Jill Lazusky. “You have done a great job, and we all appreciate the fact you have more opening hours now and are meeting the needs of individuals as they come to visit our town,” Strickland said.
