When Hurricane Matthew devastated North Carolina and Lumberton, Keith Moneymaker, wanted to help. Keith is the owner of Sweet Dreams Mattresses & More located at 150 Commerce Ave, in Southern Pines. Every time his store delivers a mattress to a customer, they haul away the old mattress. Instead of throwing the mattresses away, Keith decided to donate them to Hurricane Matthew victims. He saw there was a need for mattresses after Hurricane Matthew hit North Carolina late last year with many community members sleeping on the floor at churches and schools. Hurricane Matthew dumped eight to 12 inches of rain across much of eastern and central North Carolina, causing an estimated $4.8 billion in damage. The deadly storm displaced thousands of families and damaged more than 98,000 homes. After Keith realized there was such a great need for these mattresses, he started the Dreams 4 All Foundation.
“Our goal is to deliver a mattress to everyone in need”, said Moneymaker. “We were able to directly contact the official of FEMA in our area to get a list of people who were devastated by Matthew who were finally moving back into their homes and were in need of mattresses. We provide them with delivery and setup free of charge.” Keith was paying all expenses personally and was happy to do it.
However, now Dreams 4 All Foundation has been recognized by the IRS as a non-profit organization and can reach many more people without beds, according to Keith. “Being recognized as a non-profit, we can now accept donations which will help fund our delivery and set-up for local victims of Hurricane Matthew.”
“We have to date delivered more than 80 beds to FEMA Hurricane Matthew victims”, added Moneymaker. Keith does not want to stop at Hurricane Matthew victims either.
“We are so excited to start growing this in and around Moore County. Whether it be a natural disaster, domestic violence, or trying to get back on your feet from the loss of a job, we are willing to help and bring you a bed”, said Keith.
