Driver escapes vehicle after striking tree in Carthage

A man was transported to the hospital after crashing into a tree just outside of Carthage on Thursday evening. The single-vehicle crash happened around 4:40 p.m. on Union Church Road in the curve just east of Lynch Road.

According to authorities on scene, the crash occurred when a Ford truck traveling west towards Carthage lost control, ran off the opposite side of the road, and slammed sideways into a large tree.

Though the truck sustained heavy passenger-side damage from the impact, the male driver, who was the only occupant, was able to get out and walk around before emergency units arrived.

He was transported to Moore Regional Hospital to be further evaluated and treated.

One lane of Union Church Road was shut down briefly while crews worked the scene. North Carolina State Highway Patrol was investigating the crash.

Responding units were Carthage Fire Department, Moore County EMS, Moore County Sheriff’s Office, and N.C. Highway Patrol.
