A young woman was left in critical condition after striking a tree in Pinehurst on Friday night. Shortly after 9:30 p.m., first responders received multiple calls alerting them to a vehicle that had struck a tree on Midland Road near Glen Meadow Court.
Upon arriving on scene, first responders found the crashed Audi with extreme damage and an unresponsive female driver.
Authorities told Sandhills Sentinel that air care was requested and “needed,” but no helicopters were available. The young woman was transported via ambulance for immediate treatment instead.
The driver’s condition was critical at the time of the crash and is currently unknown. She was the only occupant of the vehicle.
Authorities confirmed that the woman was traveling east, slammed into a tree, spun, and came to a stop nearly facing the opposite direction.
The crash is still under investigation and no contributing factors were disclosed on the scene.
The Audi suffered extreme damage, and parts of the vehicle and glass littered the roadway. The force of the impact scattered pieces of the two-door car in all directions. Emergency crews worked to collect the parts of the vehicle and remove other debris from the roadway.
Both eastbound lanes of Midland Road were temporarily blocked off and traffic was turned around until the scene could be investigated, evaluated, and safely cleared.
