Driver leaves scene after rollover crash

A driver involved in a rollover crash left the scene Friday evening. The single-vehicle accident happened just after 6 p.m. on Lobelia Road, near the intersection with Flat Road, outside of Vass.

A Nissan Altima traveling west toward Vass lost control in a curve. The vehicle skidded off the road, hit an embankment and rolled before resting on its passenger side, according to authorities on the scene.

When emergency units arrived, they immediately requested law enforcement due to the driver walking away. According to officials on the scene, even though the person was badly injured, they refused to get checked out by EMS, were picked up by a passerby, and left the scene.

Traffic flow in both directions was interrupted briefly while crews worked the scene, and the vehicle was removed.

NC. Highway Patrol was on the scene and is investigating the crash.
