Driver safe after truck overturns in Vass

A driver escaped without serious injury after a truck overturned in Vass on Tuesday morning. The crash occurred just south of Bob’s Pizza on U.S Highway 1 around 10 a.m. and resulted in the southbound highway being brought down to one lane for half an hour.

According to North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the driver of the box truck had “maneuvered to avoid another vehicle.” The driver braked for quite a distance, lost control of the vehicle, veered from the road, and finally overturned on the righthand side of the highway.

The truck came to rest on the driver’s side after sliding several feet. The driver was able to safely exit the vehicle without the need for heavy rescue equipment.

The driver was the only occupant of the truck and did not require transport by EMS.

Southbound U.S. Highway 1 was brought down to one lane while emergency personnel worked to clear debris and investigate the scene.
