Driver suspected of DWI after early morning crash on Lobelia Road

A driver was taken into custody on suspicion of driving while impaired after a single-vehicle crash early Thursday in the Mount Pleasant area, according to the Crain’s Creek Fire Department.

Emergency crews were dispatched at 3:04 a.m. to the crash near 4525 Lobelia Road, between Vickie Lane and McGill Road.

Firefighters arrived to find heavy damage to the passenger side of the vehicle, which was off the roadway in a nearby embankment. One person was outside the vehicle while another remained seated in the driver’s seat.

Medical personnel evaluated both individuals at the scene, but both refused transport to a hospital.

The driver was later taken into custody by authorities on suspicion of driving while impaired, the department said. The vehicle sustained significant damage, with airbags deployed and glass shattered.

Crain’s Creek Fire Department units responded along with emergency medical personnel.
