Driver transported after crashing into woods near Cameron

A single-vehicle crash near Cameron on June 8 sent the driver to the hospital. The crash happened at the intersection of Union Church Road and Shaw Road just before 7 p.m.

According to officials, a Chevrolet Silverado was traveling south on Shaw Road when the driver, an adult female, ran through the stop sign at Union Church Road.

The truck crossed the road and went several hundred feet down a hill, narrowly missing several large trees. It then crashed into a group of trees in the woods and flipped over onto its side. The truck finally stopped mere feet from the edge of a pond.

The Whispering Pines Fire Department was dispatched for a second rescue because the driver was trapped, but it was canceled shortly thereafter.

Firefighters were able to remove the windshield from the truck and free the driver. She was the only occupant and was transported to Moore Regional Hospital.

Air care was also initially called but declined due to weather conditions.

North Carolina State Highway Patrol was on scene and is investigating the crash.

Responding to the scene were Cypress Pointe Fire Department, Moore County EMS, Moore County Sheriff’s Office, Vass Police Department, Moore County Public Safety, and N.C. Highway Patrol.
