Early work begins on Moore County project

Work can begin as early as this week on a bridge replacement and road realignment project in Moore County.

The structure that carries N.C. 22 over Nick’s Creek just west of Whispering Pines was constructed in 1940 and has reached the end of its useful life. Plans call for installing a new box culvert along a new alignment for N.C. 22, just east of the existing path of the highway.

Under a $3.5 million contract recently awarded by the N.C. Department of Transportation, Mount Creek Contractors Inc. of Mount Pleasant, S.C. will begin the project with clearing and grubbing work that should be complete by mid-March.

The new alignment of N.C. 22 is scheduled to be complete and open to traffic by the fall of 2023.
