The O’Neal School celebrated the athletic commitments of Reily Johnson to Wake Tech Community College for basketball and Olivia Maxwell to Campbell University for cheerleading. The two athletes held their official signing ceremony before their family and peers on May 16.

Johnson finished her senior year at O’Neal assisting the varsity girls basketball team to achieve their first state championship win in the school’s history. Head coach of the varsity girls program, Donna Taylor, introduced Reily’s uncle, Jayson Jones, who pointed out how difficult it is for athletes to get to the next level and quoted Michael Jordan, “If you put in the work, the results will come.”

Maxwell heads to Campbell after two years without a proper cheer team. The school said she has been a pillar for the Falcon dance team and used the great technique she had from cheer to be a perfect addition to the small dance squad. Coach Casey Harrell, the Falcons’ varsity baseball coach, spoke for Olivia as he had partnered with her in management of the boys baseball team and the Sandhills Bogeys, where she served as an intern that paved the way for her to seek a career in sports management.
