Fiery crash claims life in Eagle Springs

On Monday morning, shortly after 9 a.m., a man lost his life in a fiery crash on Big Oak Church Road in Eagle Springs.

First responders arrived on the scene to find a hybrid SUV fully involved with flames.

According to State Highway Patrol, the driver was traveling north when he ran off the right side of the road and never corrected. He struck a tree, which broke in half, and then hit another tree before stopping against a third tree on the driver’s side. The State Highway Patrol said the car was going 90-100 mph.

Seven Lakes Fire and Rescue closed Big Oak Church Road at Highway 211 to Samarcand Road for several hours while Eagle Springs Fire and Rescue and Seven Lakes worked to extinguish the fire.

It’s unclear what caused the crash, and the State Highway Patrol is investigating it. Authorities did not release the name of the driver.
