Home destroyed in early morning fire

A house outside Carthage was destroyed in a blaze early Tuesday morning. Emergency units were dispatched to the fire in the 2000 block of Wadsworth Road off Old River Road just after 4 a.m. after a neighbor spotted the fire.

Captain Justin Boyd with Carthage Fire Department was first on scene and reported a fully involved house on fire. Due to the location of the home, water had to be shuttled in with tankers from a hydrant located approximately four miles away on Priest Hill Road. Crews were on scene for an extended period of time checking for hot spots.

The house is believed to be unoccupied, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Central Electric was on scene and removed power from the house.

Responding to the scene were Carthage Fire Department, Cypress Pointe Fire Department, Whispering Pines Fire Department, Moore County EMS, Moore County Public Safety and Moore County Sheriff’s Office.
