Injuries reported in Aberdeen crash

Three people were hospitalized following a Monday night collision in Aberdeen. The wreck occurred at the intersection of U.S. 1 and 15-501 near CVS around 8 p.m. and not only resulted in three people being hospitalized, but one person momentarily trapped within their vehicle.

One lane of U.S. 1 was shut down following the collision of a Ford F-150 and a Chevy Impala, which impeded traffic for nearly an hour. Initially, one occupant of the Chevy Impala was entrapped within the vehicle before responders were able to work quickly to safely free the occupant of the wreckage.

According to authorities on scene, the collision occurred when one of the two vehicles ran the stop light and crashed into the other, blocking the highway. The vehicle at fault is still under investigation and has yet to be released at this time.

As a result of the wreck, EMS transported three people to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital via ambulance. Though their individual condition is unknown, first responders on the scene believed their injuries to be nonlife threatening.

Subsequently, both vehicles sustained heavy damage, with the Chevy taking the brunt of the impact. The Impala suffered damage to the front end, while the F-150 primarily saw most of the damage to the front passenger’s side. Air bags were deployed in both vehicles, and both vehicles had to be removed via wrecker.

First responders were fast to arrive, immediately working on freeing the trapped occupant, clearing the wreckage from the roadway, directing traffic, and cleaning up debris. Law enforcement closed one northbound lane of U.S. 1 and rerouted traffic around the crash. In total, the scene took around 45 minutes to be fully cleared.

Responding to the scene were the Aberdeen Police Department, Aberdeen Fire Department, Moore County Sheriff’s Department, and Moore County EMS. Rockwell Towing arrived on the scene to remove the Chevy.
