Investigation of stolen fire helmets results in arrest

An investigation into stolen fire helmets resulted in the arrest of a West End man.

The investigation began on April 24 when Aberdeen officers were called to the fire department on a report of a stolen fire helmet. Numerous interviews developed into a lead.

“On September 22, 2025, investigators coordinated with the Moore County Sheriff’s Office and Vass Police Department, after it was reported they had similar thefts within their jurisdictions,” said Aberdeen Police Department in a press release on Oct. 10. “Through a coordinated investigation among all three agencies, investigators uncovered a series of helmet thefts and subsequent sales of stolen property.”

On Sept. 26, 19-year-old Peyton Jordan was charged with felony larceny and two counts of felony obtaining property by false pretenses.

“Jordan is also facing additional charges filed by the Moore County Sheriff’s Office and the Vass Police Department in connection with the related incidents,” said the Aberdeen Police Department.

His secured bond was set at $5,000.

The police department did not state whether Jordan was a firefighter or how he had access to the helmets.
