K9 receives ballistic vest in memory of young cancer patient

The Moore County Sheriff’s Office announced that K-9 Anna has received a ballistic vest donated through the nonprofit organization Brady’s K9 Fund.

The vest was generously donated in honor of Conner Crossen, a young boy from Oak Ridge, North Carolina, who bravely battled cancer for two years before passing away at the age of 11.

Conner was an only child who had a deep love for dogs. During his treatments, he especially looked forward to visits from therapy dogs at the hospital. Even on days when his treatments had already ended, Conner would often stay and wait so he could see the volunteer therapy dogs when they arrived.

In honor of Conner’s life and his love for dogs, his grandmother began donating a ballistic vest each year to a North Carolina law enforcement K-9. This year, the family chose K-9 Anna. One special reason for their choice was that they had never previously donated a vest for a female K-9, and they wanted Anna to be the one to receive that honor.

“April 5 marks Conner’s “Angel Anniversary,” and K-9 Anna is proud to wear her vest in memory of Conner and the courage he showed throughout his fight,” said the sheriff’s office in a news release. “The Moore County Sheriff’s Office is deeply grateful to Conner’s family for their generosity and for allowing K-9 Anna to help carry on Conner’s legacy of love for dogs and helping others.”
