SWIFT FTC Team 7105, aka the Intergalactic Space Llamas, has secured a spot in the highly anticipated 2024 FIRST Championship, set to take place in Houston, Texas, this April. The team, based in Vass, earned this prestigious qualification at the recent North Carolina FIRST Technical Challenge (FTC) State Championships held at A&T Corbett Sports Center in Greensboro on Feb. 24.
The FIRST Championship is renowned for bringing together some of the brightest young minds in robotics worldwide. With teams hailing from various nations, including Jr. FLL, FLL, FTC, and FRC, the championship fosters an environment of innovation, collaboration, and friendly competition. Last year’s event saw over 18,000 students from 59 countries, with attendees exceeding 50,000.
SWIFT FTC Team 7105 showed great talent and dedication, winning the second-place Inspire Award and the Finalist Alliance Trophy. Furthermore, the team was honored with the prestigious first-place Design Award, recognizing the exceptional industrial design elements integrated into their robot solution.
In addition to the success of their FTC team, SWIFT Robotics has demonstrated excellence across multiple robotics platforms. Their all-female First Lego League team, “The Gourmet Goats,” performed impressively at the Wilmington qualifier in December and advanced to the NC State Semi-Finals in Raleigh. A spot in the NC State Championship for VEX IQ in Harrisburg was secured by SWIFT VEX Team 77467B Reboot’d.
SWIFT Robotics is a local robotics club founded in 2011. It offers competitive and noncompetitive after-school and home-school programs, along with engaging summer camps tailored for children from K—12. SWIFT’s programs include the First Lego League (FLL), Vex IQ, and First Tech Challenge (FTC), all of which aim to teach youngsters the basics of STEM education and robotics.

SWIFT is also working with the nationwide non-profit organization Children of Fallen Heroes to establish and promote STEAM education locally in Moore County and nationwide. Classes, workshops, activities, and events provided by SWIFT Robotics contribute to COFH’s robotics program, one of the many avenues of STEAM education that will be offered at their new 73,000-square-foot Retreat and STEAM Education Center, currently in the early stages of development here in Moore County.
