Man apprehended after crashing car, fleeing on foot

A man was apprehended after a car crash and a police pursuit on foot on Saturday night. Authorities said the man was traveling on Saunders Boulevard in Aberdeen when he rolled his car near Churchill Downs Drive. Officials said he immediately jumped out and ran before police or emergency crews arrived. 

Aberdeen Police responded to the scene along with the Highway Patrol. Southern Pines Police were called to respond with a K9. The man was spotted by the railroad tracks. Aberdeen officers ran down the tracks and through woods, eventually coming out onto Stephanie Street, where they apprehended the man.

Police apprehend a man after he allegedly crashed his car and fled the scene in Aberdeen on Feb. 10.

Moore County EMS was called to the scene by police to have the man evaluated for injuries from the wreck.

Aberdeen Police Chief Brian Chavis said Gary Cheathem Jr., 33, of Aberdeen, was arrested on charges of driving while impaired and other traffic offenses. He is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
