A man was uninjured after he drove his Ford Escape into a lake just after midnight in Aberdeen. Authorities were dispatched at 12:44 AM to the lake in front of Bethesda Presbyterian Church on US#1.
Witnesses said the SUV ran the stop sign coming out of Forest Hills neighborhood, crossed over US#1, and crashed into the lake. When law enforcement arrived, the driver was out of the vehicle and on land.
At first, he was unsure if his grandmother was in the vehicle with him as alcohol was a factor in the accident. A dive team was called, and law enforcement was also dispatched to the grandmother’s house to see if they could make contact. While the dive team was en route, law enforcement was able to locate the grandmother safely at her home.
The dive team still responded to the scene to assist in removing the vehicle from the water. The divers attached cables from the wrecker and Rockwell Towing pulled the 2003 Ford Escape from the water.
The driver, Barry Lashaun Foster, 21, of Pinehurst, was arrested and charged with Driving While Impaired and other charges may be pending by Aberdeen Police.
Responding to the scene were Aberdeen Fire & Rescue, Cypress Pointe Fire Department Dive Team, Moore County EMS, and Rockwell Towing.
