A Southern Pines man was arrested Friday night after his ear was bitten off during an assault at an apartment on Murray Hill Road.

Ronnell Tydell Wilson, 35, was charged with two counts of assault on a female and was placed under a $25,000 bond.

Southern Pines Police Department said they received a 911 hang up call at 9:30 p.m. where only screaming could be heard in the background.

When the police arrived, two individuals, who knew each other, were involved in an altercation, and officers observed a large amount of blood on the floor, walls, and furniture.

A large portion of Wilson’s ear was bitten off and found lying on the floor. The police also found a bloody baseball bat in the apartment.

“Ronnell Wilson was in an aggressive agitated state and was demanding that the responding officers shoot him,” said Southern Pines Police Department.

Police were able to take Wilson into custody without incident or further injury and was transported to Moore Regional Hospital for treatment.

The police said two female victims were also treated at the hospital.

The suspect has a Jan. 24 court date and is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
