It’s unclear how the accident occurred and in which directions the vehicles were traveling. State Highway Patrol is investigating it.

Southern Pines Fire and Rescue and Moore County Sheriff’s Office closed both eastbound lanes of Midland Road for some time. The collision caused significant delays and a long line of traffic on S. Knoll Road.

According to radio traffic, another ambulance was requested to the scene about 45 minutes after the wreck. It’s unclear if that ambulance was called for the third driver or out of precaution.
