Two men were airlifted to a trauma center Wednesday afternoon after crashing a utility terrain vehicle (UTV) in the woods near Highfalls, according to emergency officials.
The call came in shortly after 4 p.m., prompting a response from local fire and EMS crews. First responders had to locate and retrieve the patients from “deep in the woods” before transporting them to a landing zone that had been established at the Mennonite Church of Highfalls.
Officials told Sandhills Sentinel the men were riding a UTV when it struck a tree.
Members of the Highfalls Fire Department deployed their own UTV to reach the crash site and assist in bringing the victims out of the woods.
Both patients were alert when they were loaded into separate medical helicopters, which had been staged at the church. They were carried and loaded by members of the Highfalls Fire Department, Moore County EMS, and the flight crew.Â
No further details about the crash have been released, and the conditions of the two men remain unknown.
