Part of U.S. 1 was temporarily shut down after a semi-truck took out three power poles in Aberdeen Monday afternoon.
Authorities told the Sentinel that the semi-truck was traveling southwest on U.S. 1 when it tried to turn left into the DMV parking lot, causing the low-hanging power lines to snag on the cab.
The driver was unharmed, but three power poles were knocked down; two snapped completely in half.
The section of U.S. 1 from Poindexter Road to Roseland Road was closed off while crews worked to clear the damage. Traffic was re-routed down South Pinehurst Street.
The Aberdeen Fire Department, Aberdeen Police Department, and Duke Energy responded to the incident.
