Driver seriously injured after Carthage Corvette crash

A driver was seriously injured after a Corvette crashed into a tree on Union Church Road in Carthage Saturday evening.

The crash occurred around 5:30 p.m. after the Corvette turned onto Union Church Road from Ring Road, heading toward Union Pines High School.

A witness at the scene recounted to Sandhills Sentinel that the Corvette allegedly turned in front of another vehicle and sped up in an attempt to avoid a collision. The Corvette then reportedly began to fishtail, lost control, and clipped a tree before coming to rest in the yard.

According to radio traffic, the driver suffered serious head injuries and was transported to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital by Moore County EMS. Air care was initially requested but ultimately could not fly due to weather conditions.

A passenger, the only other occupant in the vehicle, was not seriously injured.

The Corvette sustained heavy front-end damage.

Cypress Pointe Fire Department and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to the crash.
