Current health care workers are invited to enroll in upcoming classes for Nurse Aide I, Nurse Aide II, and Nurse Aide/Medication Aide, starting in October at both Sandhills Community College locations in Pinehurst and Raeford.
Nurse Aide I – Refresher course Oct. 7, 8 and 9 and 14, 15 and 16. Hoke Center, Raeford. 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. each day. This 40-hour program is for those whose listing has expired on the NC Nurse Aide I Registry (five years or less). Eligible individuals must have completed a state-approved Nurse Aide I program and have a certificate or transcript supporting completion. This refresher course provides lecture and lab practice of previously learned skills and hands-on skills practice for state exams for students with expired certifications. There is no clinical with this course, and no background or drug screen is required. CEU: 4.0
Nurse Aide/Medication Aide – Oct. 3, 10, 17 and 24. Hoke Center, Raeford. 8:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. each day. Ready to become a Medication Aide in North Carolina? This 24-hour course will prepare you for the NC competency exam that enables you to give medications in long-term care facilities (nursing homes). Certification is only valid in the state of NC. Students must be listed on the NC Nurse Aide I Registry to register for the class. The course involves the six rights of medication administration, accuracy, infection control, patients’ rights and scope of practice. Upon completion, students are eligible to take the N.C. State Board Medication Aide Exam for skilled nursing homes (This is not the same as the Med Tech or Med Aide for Assisted Living Centers and Rest Home requires). CEU: 2.4
Nurse Aide II – Competency Assessment (Refresher Course) Oct. 3, 10, 17 and 24. Pinehurst Campus. 8:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. each day. This 24-hour course is designed to assess and validate NA II skills competencies for individuals whose NAII certification has expired within the past two years. This course is approved by NCBON and utilizes the Nurse Aide II skills competency polices and skills training modules. The skills include Role of the NAII, Oxygen Therapy, Sterile Technique, Wound Care, Suctioning, Tracheostomy Care, Peripheral IV Fluids, Urinary Catheterization, Nasogastric and Ostomy Care. Satisfactory level students will submit applications for listing on the NAII Registry with no further testing required. CEU: 2.4
